2D Class Week 15 Film 7 – The Secrete of Nimh

1. Who was the director of the film? What other movies has this director produced?

Don Bluth was the director. Other works that I have seen are: land before time, titan A.E., Anastasia.

2 Artistically, what did you like about this film?

it was very creative. The little world that these rodents lived in seemed all the larger as the movie went on.

It also had some beautyful matte paintings.

2D Class Week 14 Film 7 – The Thing

1. Who was the director of the film? What other movies has this director produced?

John Carpenter. Of his movies I have of course seen both "escape from" movies, also some Halloween and ghost of mars.

2 Artistically, what did you like about this film?

I absolutely loved the mystery and little hidden prologue with the "Sweden" camp. Seeing how this has already happened before was an interesting thing to look back on during the movie.

3. Who is the thing at the end of the movie ?

Well it cant be MacReady. He just took steps to stop the thing from escaping. With MacReady seemingly cleared, one would naturally jump to Childs as the thing. However, lets look back at why we think Childs is the thing first. We seem him abandon his post to supposedly chase down Blair, but is that at all out of character for Childs to begin with? He already seems like the type of person that would chase down an opportunity. Could it in-fact not be MacReady? During that blood test, there had bound to be some of the infected blood that found its way on him. Maybe infected slowly and playing the long game. At the ending scene, is it not possible that the music played because Childs drank from a bottle that MacReady had tainted? Earlier in the film, it was stated that everyone should prepare their own meals. Although, if we look at Childs again at the end, and his lacking of hot breath in the cold air and lack of eye glint, things don't seem too positive for him either. I am not really sure who is the thing, if either of them are.
